FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01

Do I need a technical drawing?

No.  Although a technical drawing is the best way to ensure we get the correct dimensions and accuracies, we can use hand drawings, photographs and original casting or items.

02

Do you design products or create technical drawings?

No, we make the patterns from customers' or engineers' drawings, although we can work from photographs and sketches too.

03

What format can you accept technical drawings in?

Anything really as long as it's in the most common file types; PDF, JPG, PNG, TIF, as well as MS Word and most CAD drawings.

04

Do you modify or make adjustments to patterns?

Yes, we regularly clean up, repair and modify patterns.

05

What is the difference between a mould and a pattern?

A pattern is an exact replica of an item.  A foundry would use the pattern to create an impression in sand or a sand mould to pour the molten metal into.  A mould is a hollow container used to give shape to molten or hot liquid material when it cools and hardens.  A mould can be made from using a pattern or model of the final object.

06

How can I make decorative gates and fence railings for my home?

If you already have railings or a gate we can use those original castings to create new patterns.  This would then be used by a Foundry to create a sand mould into which they would pour molten metal and this would create numerous new replicas of your railings and gate.  Otherwise you can provide us with a photograph, sketch or technical drawing to illustrate what you require and we can work from that to make the patterns.
